Description

Now is the time to join one of the top non-profits of its size in Oregon as one of our Teachers for the Bandon Community Child Care Center. Community Child Care Center is a full day high-quality early learning center for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age (or entering kindergarten).

General Position Description

The Teacher is responsible for coordinating the curriculum and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide Teacher Aides, and resolve parental concerns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, formal assessments and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Supervise Teacher Aides and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of 750 hours of qualifying teaching experience in a Certified Center Child Care Center; OR one year or 1,500 hours of qualifying teaching experience in Registered Family or Certified Family child care; OR documentation of attaining at least step 6 in the Oregon Registry; OR 9 quarter credits in two CKCs (3 must be in HGD or UGB); OR A minimum of an Associate’s Degree from a college or university with a major in an approved course of study as determined by Child Care Licensing Division; OR a state or nationally recognized credential , e.g. Child Development Associate (CDA) for the appropriate for the age group.
  • High energy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents).
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification – or willing to obtain.
  • Oregon Food Handler’s card - or willing to obtain.
  • OCC Safe Sleep for Oregon’s infants training - or willing to obtain.
  • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) - or willing to obtain.
  • Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS) – or willing to obtain.
  • Foundations for Learning - or willing to obtain.
  • Must clear full Central Background Registry background check.

Educational Requirements

High School Diploma
AA/BA, preferred

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 35 pounds.

Full-time; Hourly wage between $16 to $18, depending on qualification
