Now is the time to join one of the top non-profits of its size in Oregon as one of our Teacher Assistants for the Bandon Community Child Care Center. Bandon Community Child Care Center is a full day high-quality early learning center for children 6 weeks to 6 years of age.
General Position Description
The Program Aide supports the teachers and the Program Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children. They will assist with activities to improve the overall care and quality of education at the Center and help develop positive relationships with the children and their parents. The Program Aide is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the center in accordance with sanitation requirements including but not limited to sanitizing toys, wiping down shelves, and vacuuming and disinfecting rugs and floors. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Follows the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Maintain cleanliness, order and the availability of classroom materials as defined by licensing regulations and maintain up to date checklists that reflect completion of assignments.
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to childcare center during check in and check out, if required.
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
- May be asked to do simple meal prep, serving and clean-up of eating areas and kitchen.
- Follow all the center policies and state regulations.
- Actively engage in activities with children as directed by the center staff.
- Aide l must be directly supervised, and within sight OR sound of a staff member who meets the qualifications of a teacher or aide II at all times while with children except when accompanying a child or a group of children to the bathroom; providing minor medical attention to a child; a child is ill and has been separated from the other children until the child leaves the center; or Rest time staff-to-ratios apply.
- Aide ll may be left alone with children when supervising a group of children and aide I to cover for staff breaks, provided staff-to-child ratios are maintained, and there is another staff who is teacher, or director qualified present at the facility; times identified for Aide 1 (above); substituting for the teacher in the primary group of children the aide II works with. Substituting for the teacher is limited to up to two consecutive weeks; participating in a teacher training program.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on program needs.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- 1 or more year of professional childcare experience preferred.
- High energy.
- Ability to work well with others, be a team player, and be flexible.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- An understanding of child development and a willingness to take additional training's that are offered.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification – or willing to obtain.
- Oregon Food Handler’s card - or willing to obtain.
- OCC Safe Sleep for Oregon’s infants training - or willing to obtain.
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) - or willing to obtain.
- Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS) – or willing to obtain.
- Foundations for Learning - or willing to obtain.
- Must clear full Central Background Registry background check.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
